On the 1st February 2008 the new licensing Act came into force in Scotland.
The new Scottish Licensing Act became Law on the 1st September 2009. The law states that all premises in Scotland now require a personal licence holder to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol from licensed premises. Under paragraph 6 of schedule 3 of the Scottish licensing Act the law also states all members of staff who are not personal licence holders are required to achieve a level of competence in retailing alcohol. This means all members of staff must have a basic level of training on the new liquor licensing laws for Scotland.
